i wouldnt care if a black/asain wanted to reenact.

LOL imagine a black himmler or hitler LOL

I know a small number of Black men (not sure of ethinic background so make no assumptions of where they are from) served within the whermacht, can't remember the rolls of them but am sure someone sourced the info on one of the reenactment forums and posted pictures. Also there were known to be a few black women (again unsure of cultural background) that did serve within the DRK.

Of course they were in the minority no doubt, but there are pictures out there that have black men in Heer uniforms, and am not sure if it was occupied Holland where they served as at the time it had a contingent of immigrants from ethnic countries.

I assume however that race is irrelevant now (which is how it should be), you can hardly critisie someone for their skin colour if you have a 60 year old obese man playing say a fallschirmager ;) or US airborne though I know these sort of things do occur  I think so long as someone took the time to read and get the research to back up their portrayal then they should be able to do whatever they want (goes for any nation, race, size, stature) some strange things hidden away in the depths of WWII history, more so say in German as there are lots of contradictions more so at the end of the war when it was deemed needs.

Oh dont get me wrong i dont care either way who re-enacts what really.

i was just wondering is you could legally discriminate on historical grounds?

I know some groups dont let women portray male soldiers, can they legally do that?

I wasn't making assumptions gadge, and the post that had intrigued me initially was on http://forum.axishistory.com/ theres some pictures on it showing men in place.

On the female thing, I think being one I qualify answering it  the general public assume no women from any nation took to arms, although it is well known about the UK ack ack girls, my great aunt Jean was a WAAF assigned to anti flak and worked numerous times (apparently in great peril sometimes according to the stories my dad can retell) on barrage balloons (something at somepoint I want to look into further),

However women on the whole did not serve on the front line (of course thats discounting special services and resistance) in any of the services bar Russian, so it is highly innacurate to portray it as anything other than what they did. For that reason I don't see it as predjucide (sp?) and I as a female think its a great disservice to those women that did serve in various perilous roles (SOE for example) to pretend to be male and misinform people that don't know any better ;)

Hopefully I explained my reasoning  and am sure other females may disagree but that is how it is for me

I think thats part of why I enjoyed CR so much, it gave me a real insight as a female to feel, be whatever a situation most women at the time wouldn't have seen and indeed now cannot be part of due to womens roles during 1939-1945 :D

Saw a couple of black guys in a American 'Uk wwii airborne' re-enactment group once.

Out of interest are re-enactment groups legally allowed to discrimainte you on race or sex.

If a black woman wanted to join a wehrmacht re-enacment group could they legally refuse her or could she sue their arses off if they did?

Its a fair point. Is a group allowd to rfuse membership to a disabled person?

If a black woman wanted to do SSLAH their would obviously be problems but a disabled white man, their is no historical reason to turn them down.

TBH same go's for most women. Most armys employed female clerical and "Spcialist" staff, so unless the unit portrays a combat unit on the front line it wont be too out of context. Bear in mind that their was every possability female HQ staff could have been stationed with the admin unit of each commando while in the UK.

And for the record their is a female HG PZ Div re-enactor. I think she may also be quite high on the groups hirarchy. She is not very feminine though In kit she looks like a yopung lad, but I dont know if that is because of any Trikkery in the underwear department.

A friend of mine is an amputee, and is very well recieved when a squib is detonated on his false leg every battle.

But wouldn't pass muster for safety. There are plenty of tinted safety specs out there.

I'd get safety glasses with changeable lenses, tinted ones indoors on a dull day can be a liability.

IN the october game for example you *realy* dont want tinted lenses

I sued to play in amber lenses but much prefer clear glass now.

I did see once light reactive ones (well work ones as apposed to airsofting) and they were withdrawn I assume much for the reason gadge gave above, in the wrong lighting dark is a major disadvantage.

Also not I have hyper senstive eyes and live in sunglasses (can't drive without them) and found despite how wet it was at CR my cap provided enough shade for me not to worry about dark lenses (it was a concern)

Not what your after I know, but theres nothing to stop you getting a pair of suitable dark sunglasses for photo shoots and just using clear lensed spex for airsofting ;)

Ill go for the clear ones then i understand about the light, have just realised! Its a shame as they would be good with a Sven impression and they would make me look 'cool' 8)

No you would have looked a bit out of place to be honest.

Tinted shooting glasses look very modern and sven only wears them for about a fifith of one book.

Concetrate on the basics lewis.

You'll need a panzer uniform Or a standard grey one, (he wears that as much as the black in the books), steel helmet, webbing, airsoft aeg, and jack boots.

What gadge said, you could conceivably get some cammo as wel but in most of the russian front books they are in grey, he only go's into specifics on being in the black panzer wrap about half a doxxen times in 6 books.

They do have camo in france and itally though, which is the loadout I will be going for, as a loose fitting tunic stuffed with news paper would not be the best skirmish gear.
